There are many other instruments used in the various poly-rhythms of African percussion. We supply Djembe, Doum Doum, Caxixi, Bougarabou, Shekere and Bells. This is by no means the whole story. There are families of drums, Sabar, Talking Drum and Kpanlogo, all of which play different parts in the music of West Africa.
Our main suppliers are from Ivory Coast - Kambala percussion. We have been dealing with Marcel and his brilliant team for 12 years. They use local Iroca wood for the shells, finest goat for the skins of djembe and cow for Doum doum and Bougarabou, and make the most consistent drums we have come across. Kambala makes three ranges for us: the Bassam range, red stringed undecorated understated instruments, Kambala Professional and the Master series. Bucara traditional drums we source from a fair trade partnership in Ghana. These are made from African Cedar which are light and durable as well as being decorative. The Bucara Festival series is a departure for us. We have taken an environmental approach to drums which are selling in large quantities and have a partnership with a company which makes drums from fibreglass. The internal 'sound shape' is much the same as Kambala Djembes, and the heads are finest goat, but the shells are GRP or fibreglass. This results in light drums which sound fantastic.
We can supply individual drums, and have developed a fine range of African kits which embrace the poly-rhythmical nature of the music. These are ideally suited for drumming groups and schools. We will also create bespoke drumming packs for individual customers.
